Frequently Asked Questions

What are the characteristics of autism?

The characteristics and severity of autism varies widely. Some people on the spectrum have exceptional abilities in visual skills, music, and academic skills. For others with autism, characteristics may be more severe, as when repetitive behaviors and lack of spoken language interfere with everyday life. No matter how severe, Avenues is here to help through every phase of life.

What does Avenues for Autism do?

Avenues for Autism works to identify emerging needs so we can draft a plan of action to improve, grow, and provide stellar services and support. We help individuals and families identify partners and fundraising sources that will help families provide their loved ones with the opportunities needed to thrive.

What local resources does Avenues work with?

Avenues for Autism brought together large, Northwest Ohio organizations such as ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, Mercy, and The University of Toledo and smaller autism service organizations such as Bittersweet Farms and Autism Society of Northwest Ohio, to form the Autism Provider Network of Northwest Ohio (APN). APN serves as a platform for providers to come together in dialogue and action to better serve individuals with autism and their families and caregivers.

Do you help individuals after the age of 18?

Yes, there is no age restriction on the services we offer.

I want to help, how do I get involved?

We hold various events and fundraising efforts people can volunteer at, along with donation opportunities on many platforms. Individuals can donate online, and shop at Kroger and Amazon with part of their purchase benefiting Avenues. For more information on how to donate or volunteer, visit our support page.
