As a single parent without a support system, it is just me and my boys. Receiving Suzanne Tyner Autism Fund from Avenues for Autism Scholarship has made a tremendous impact on my family. This support came at a time when we truly needed it, and it has helped create a safer, calmer, and more structured environment for my son and our entire household.
The items provided through this scholarship have been life-changing. The Lego table, activity table, and sensory items have helped my son stay engaged, focused, and able to sit in one place to build, color, and enjoy his activities. Before this, he would move constantly and struggle to stay seated. Now, he has his own designated space for eating, coloring, and playing — something that has helped him develop more routine and comfort in his daily life.
This scholarship helped lift some of that weight off my shoulders. It provided not just items, but relief, comfort, and the reassurance that I am not alone. It helped me show up as a calmer, happier, and more patient mother during a very challenging time. It has truly changed our lives for the better — not only for my son with autism, but for our entire family.
